Oral Cancer Screening
Every comprehensive examination at our office includes an oral cancer screening. We examine your mouth for any suspicious sores, discolorations, or growths. Our training helps us identify abnormalities that may require a more thorough evaluation.
Successful oral cancer outcomes rely on early detection.
Oral Cancer accounts for approximately 3% of all cancers in the United States. Clinicians diagnose about 30,000 cases of oral cancer every year, and approximately 8,000 die from this condition annually.
How do you complete oral cancer screening?
The screening involves examining the following areas: The back of the throat, tongue, floor of the mouth, roof of the mouth, face, jaw, neck, and lips. If we find any abnormalities, we can help you get a biopsy, diagnosis, and timely treatment (if needed.) Regular checkups lower the risk of damage from decay, gum disease, and even oral cancer. Early detection and management of any tissue changes often make a significant difference in this condition.
When should I have screening for oral cancer?
Oral cancer screenings are done twice a year during your comprehensive preventive visit. However, if you notice any abnormalities or experience any mouth pain between periodic visits, please make an appointment with us as soon as possible.
